WHY THE SOUTH WEST IS SUCH A FABULOUS WINTER DESTINATION

There is no doubt that Dunsborough and the South West of Western Australia is renowned as a sensational summer holiday haven.  Our tranquil and turquoise swimming beaches framed by shimmering sands and granite outcrops along pristine coastlines are a beacon for thousands of holidays makers every summer.  When not enjoying the fabulous swimming and surfing spots or partaking other forms of marine recreation such as boating, fishing and jetskiing; our visitors love to browse the myriad of boutiques and gift shops and sample the gourmet delights of our café’s.  We are in complete agreement that we live in one of the premier summer holiday hotspots.

HOWEVER in the winter time, Dunsborough and surrounds offer a different yet equally fabulous holiday experience.  As the famous quote from Sir Ranulph Fiennes highlights “there is no such thing as bad weather,  only inappropriate clothing”.   Visit us between June and August and take the opportunity to rug up and explore the beautiful coastal trails around our Capes.  There is a stunning ruggedness and an ancient timelessness about our region that is often best appreciated on a wild and woolly day.  Grab a takeaway coffee from any one of our fabulous coffee shops and sit comfortably warm in the carpark overlooking Yallingup Beach, and marvel at the windswept ocean and massive swells of this world famous surf beach.

There are superb wineries to visit where you can enjoy a tasting and learn about the processes that culminate in your favoured red or white;  and there’s nothing better than a glass of your favourite beverage by a roaring fire on a wintry night.   There are Beer & Wine tours where you can be safely escorted between venues - another great day out in the South West that isn’t reliant on sunny skies for a good time.

Inclement weather gives you a fabulous excuse to visit the wonderful art galleries, pottery studios,  jewellery & furniture artisans, chocolatiers and other highly regarded providores.  The rolling countryside in all its emerald glory is best appreciated on a drive tour of all the hinterland tourist attractions between June and August.

Watch this space as we roll out some of our favourite places to shop, visit, eat,  drink and make merry this winter.  There are so many glorious pockets to explore around Dunsborough, Quindalup, Eagle Bay,  Yallingup and and all of the amazing places inbetween, and we’re excited to showcase a few.
