Winter is a magical time to visit Dunsborough, as thousands of humpback, southern right and even blue whales migrate along the WA coast. From June to November, Geographe Bay becomes one of Australia's top whale watching destinations.

Here are our favourite local spots to see them:

1. Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse

One of the best land-based whale watching locations in the region, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse offers sweeping ocean views where whales are often spotted close to shore. For even more opportunities, explore a section of the Cape to Cape Track.

2. Point Picquet

A quiet local favourite between Meelup and Eagle Bay, Point Picquet is perfect for a peaceful morning watching whales pass close to the shoreline. Bring a coffee, find a spot on the rocks and enjoy the view.

3. Sugarloaf Rock

With an easy walk to the viewing platform, Sugarloaf Rock is a fantastic stop for families and photographers. Its elevated lookout provides excellent views for spotting breaching whales against the dramatic coastline.

4. Bunker Bay

The sheltered bay often sees whales moving through the area, particularly mothers with calves later in the season. The beach itself is a beautiful place for a walk while keeping an eye on the water.

5. Whale Watching with Naturaliste Charters

For an unforgettable experience, head out on the water with Naturaliste Charters. Departing from Quindalup, their guided tours offer incredible close-up encounters while sharing fascinating insights into the whales that visit Geographe Bay each season.
