This striking winery is definitely worth a visit; a beautiful and scenic drive along winding and undulating Caves Road will have you at the portals of this grand estate. There is a definite WOW factor about Amelia Park; from the manicured entry; to the imposing Cellar Door with its stunning timber doors that open automatically and lead you to dramatic picture windows, overlooking the lush valley and stately rows of vines.
A special experience is the exclusive private tasting in the elegant timber lined room overlooking the picturesque Wilyabrup Valley – bookings essential; or simple arrive and enjoy sampling their incredible range at the main tasting counter. The Amelia Park Collection is comprised of a premium range of wines made from the very finest regional grapes. The Reserve Collection wines represent the very best parcels of fruit from the vintage, identified early and kept aside for separate processing; the Reserve wines will benefit from being stored for 10 years plus; and the Trellis Collection is designed to be a high quality yet approachable wine to be enjoyed every day.
We would love to introduce you to the talented man behind these amazing wines – the multiple award winning vigneron and co-owner, Jeremy Gordon, winner of the prestigious Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy; James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge and many more national and international awards. Jeremy believes ‘fine wines come from a rich blend of time-honoured method and modern technique’. Wine making is his passion, and each wine is lovingly hand crafted to capture the essence of the fruit.
What inspired you to become a Vigneron?
I’ve always had a passion for agriculture growing up and whilst I was studying commerce at uni, I stumbled across a part time job in the Swan Valley for a vintage position, with a well-known winery, and completed my first vintage with them nearly 30 years ago. I instantly made a connection to the growing and viticulture side of grape growing, through to harvesting and winemaking finished wines.
What makes wines produced in the Wilyabrup region so special?
Grape growing is ultimately what determines great wines. Wilyabrup has all the key ingredients for high quality grape production. Climate, soils, varieties and management all work together to produce the consistently high-quality wines of Margaret River. It is a unique part of the world and I believe the remarkable wines produced are reflective of this.
Who / what has been your greatest inspiration on your wine making journey?
A lot of different people have contributed to my winemaking journey. One of the great things in our industry is the sharing of information and help during the many different situations that grape growing and winemaking throw at you - whether it be good or bad. My greatest inspiration would be the challenge that each vintage brings, and my desire to produce better wines each year. The journey is ongoing and always exciting
Amelia Park has been named the Best Cellar Door in Margaret River by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine 3 years in a row and is most definitely a ‘must do’ experience during your down south luxury break.
A short stroll from the Cellar Door will have you at the delectable Amelia Park Restaurant – an absolute must for those who adore the finer things in life. Showcasing breathtaking views over the vineyards and offering a plethora of gourmet delights; picking your favourite item on the menu will be almost impossible!
